Scientific profile

My research activities focus mainly on geomorphic processes in mountain areas and are related to sediment budgets and sediment routing:

  • Paraglacial Geomorphology & Sediment Budgets
  • Geophysical Applications & Survey Techniques
  • Geomorphological Mapping, GIS & WebGIS
  • Fluvial Geomorphology

The methods I use include geomorphological mapping, field geophysics (electrical resistivity tomography, ground penetrating radar and refraction seismic tomography), terrestrial laser scanning, hydrological sampling and GIS modelling. I'm also interested in WebGIS and Webmapping using open source software.

My teaching activities include undergraduate exercises and field trips in physical geography and geomorphology and advanced GIS courses at the master degree level.

Education

  • Since 09/2008: Post Graduation study in Geography (PhD), University of Salzburg , Austria, PhD position within the SedyMONT project (ESF Topo-Europe Programme ); individual project 4: "Sediment budgets for glacier forefields (Pasterze & Obersulzbachkees, Hohe Tauern, Austria) - Quantification an temporal variability. A contribution to Climate Change Research in High Mountain Environments"
  • September 2007: Graduation in Geography (Diploma), Department of Geography, University of Bonn, Bonn, Germany
  • 2/2000 - 9/2007: Study of Geography at the Department of Geography, University of Bonn, Bonn, Germany

Working experience

During my studies at the University of Bonn, I was actively involved in two research project concering sediment cascades in alpine geosystems (SEDAG) and the use of radiomagnetotellurics in geomorphology. In addition I worked as a software programmer for the terrestris GmbH & Co. KG using HTML, PHP, Javascript and SQL. Most of my work was related to WebGIS and Webmapping applications. After graduation, I worked for the geofact GmbH doing geophysical surveys. In September 2008, I went to the University of Salzburg to join the Research Group 'Geomorphology and Environmental Systems' and started my PhD.

  • Since 09/2008: Scientific Assisstant of Prof. Dr. Lothar Schrott, Department of Geography and Geology, University of Salzburg, Austria
  • Since 02/2009: Lecturer in Physical Geography, Geomorphology & GIS, Department of Geography & Geology, University of Salzburg, Austria
  • Since 09/2008: Remittance work for the engineering company alpinfra, Salzburg, Austria
  • 09/2005 - 08/2008: Employee, terrestris GmbH & Co. KG, Bonn, Germany, software programmer
  • 7/2007 - 7/2008: Employee, geofact GmbH, Bonn, Germany, Geophysical surveying, applied methods: DC-resistivity, ground-penetrating radar, seismic refraction and reflection, magnetics and electromagnetics
